Christmas is rapidly approaching, and that means it is time for the annual Christmas Bird Count. Each year, volunteers across North America count and report bird sightings over the Christmas season (December 14-January 5). Volunteers can count birds in the field or at private bird feeders on the designated day of the count in a particular area. Information from the count is used by scientists to understand the changes in species range and population size.
At least 2 Christmas Bird Counts are taking place in the Nashwaak watershed.
- The Stanley, New Brunswick area count is taking place on December 14th. Please contact Julie Singleton if you would like to be involved (bowerbk@nbnet.nb.ca).
- The Fredericton area count is taking place on December 15th . Please contact Arielle DeMerchant (arielledemerchant@gmail.com, 506-261-5304) if you would like to participate.
Even if you are unable to participate, you can still benefit from the site-specific and date-specific birding guides prepared by Birds Canada– follow this link to find a guide to the most common birds in the Fredericton area for this season: ow.ly/Jv0t50xxksZ
